In Lieu of flowers at his funeral a collection was made and the monies
collected were used to buy a new football strip for the local junior
football team with whom he had close links. The remainder of the
money was sent to TS Danae Sea Cadets In Chesterfield who had

Donald ‘Flo’ Ford

Florrie died suddenly at 1230hrs on the 30th of October 2005 after
a long battle with emphysema
, He was 62:

Florrie along with Brian Newsham was instrumental in the founding
and setting up of the ‘Danae first commission association’.

His first advertisement in the Navy News in late 2002 led to an
initial gathering of 23 at the inaugural reunion April 2003 at the
Royal Fleet Club Devonport.

Flo’s enthusiasm for the Danae never flagged and even with such
a debilitating disease he still turned out to be present with his
Shipmates at every reunion.

Florrie was a larger than life character and aboard the Danae a
father figure who looked after ‘His Boys’. He was truly held
in high esteem by all who knew him and will be sadly missed. R.I.P
